There are two English verbs spelled l-i-e. One is a regular
verb, and means to speak falsely.

George Washington said "I cannot tell a lie".
The witness
lied during her testimony.
Many people
have lied about their age.
Lying is a bad habit.

The other verb lie means to become horizontal or be at rest.

Jessica's cat likes to lie on the windowsill.
She
lay there all day yesterday.
She
has lain there for five hours today.
She
is lying there right now.

This verb is irregular; its conjugation (verb forms) is to the
right.

Lay means place or put.

Please lay your boots by the door.
Ashot
laid the baby in her crib.
Carrie's goose
has laid an egg.
The Boy Scouts
are laying wreaths on all the
monuments today.

This verb is also irregular. Its conjugation is to the left.
A man is lying on
the beach.
