After reading a statement or passage, choose the best answer to each question from
among the five choices given.

The most important phrase in this sentence is best answer. Sometimes more than one
answer choice is correct; it's up to you to decide which is better, clearer, more
complete. Consider this example:

A screwdriver is an implement designed for tightening and loosening
screws. Over time, however, other uses have been discovered. For
example, screwdrivers are often used to pry open paint cans.

With which of the following statements about screwdrivers would that author
be most likely to agree?
(A) A screwdriver is of no use to a carpenter.
(B) Screwdrivers are useful to painters.
(C) A screwdriver is a tool.
(D) A screwdriver is a useful tool for many lines of work.
(E) A screwdriver is of no use to a painter.

In this instance, chioces B, C, and D are all possible answers. As the author states that
screwdrivers are often used to pry open paint cans, it is logical that s/he would agree
with B. Since 'tool' is another word for 'implement', the author's word, there is no way
the author could disagree with C. However, the directions state that we should choose
the
best answer. D offers the most complete statement regarding the passage and is
therefore the best answer.
